Welsh language campaign group Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg have formed a partnership with Wrexham football club's Supporters' Trust to promote a gig to raise funds for the campaign to ensure the club's survival.

The gig will be the climax of the Eisteddfod week this Saturday evening (6th August) at the Central Station club in Wrexham and Cymdeithas has announced that half the profit will go to the fans' trust.

Many Wrexham people are performing at the gig including Mother of Six, Band Cambria and martial arts world champion Pol Wong. Also at the gig will be Bob Delyn and Geraint Lovgreen who is a Wrexham FC season-ticket holder. The gig is being organised jointly with the local pressure group "Deffro'r Ddraig - Awaken the Dragon". After midnight, the Central's legendary club night will continue.

Cymdeithas organiser for the north, Osian Jones, explained:

¢‚¬Å“As the Chair of the Fans' Trust, Richard Jones says 'the fans are the heartbeat of the club' and we know that the club is the heartbeat of the local community for many people. This week we have launched a new chareter 'Tynged yr Iaith' (Fate of the Language) which emphasises the importance of reviving every community in Wales, and we are pleased to work together with Wrexham football club's Supporters' Trust, and play a small part to help ensure the future of the club.¢‚¬

Geraint Lovgreen called on people to support the Gig and the Fans' Trust. He said:

"This is a chance for eisteddfod-goers to contribute to the local community the festival is visiting."
