Coffee with Keates

Continuing to show our support for MacMillan Cancer Support, Wrexham AFC held it’s coffee morning on Friday, 29th September. We opted for a more relaxed and comfortable venue this year so instead of having the opportunity to have a brew while watching the squad train at 9 Acre, the Centenary Club provided a warm and comfortable alternative with the squad joining us after they had finished their preparation for the Sutton United game.

Coffee1A big thank you must go to you amazing people that took the time to bake cakes to help with our fundraising and make the event such a success. Dozens of people turned up to show their support and the total raised for the day was well over £250.

This year’s event was a real community effort. Organiser and WST board member, Stuart Roberts was approached by staff and pupils from Dodds Lane Student Centre, Wrexham’s Pupil Referral Service. It was obvious that the pupils, although may have had a difficult time in their schools, were extremely passionate about fundraising and raising awareness within the community. Ceris Walker, a football club owner, introduced the two young men to Stuart during a meeting in the football club board room. They explained about the unit and what they had previously done to raise funds for Jaxon Langford, a young boy who unfortunately lost his fight against neuroblastoma recently. It was a pleasure to work with these young people and sincere thanks must go to them all for being so enthusiastic, polite and respectful throughout.

Finally, thank you to the volunteers who turned up on the day to ensure that the event ran smoothly and everyone there got a slice of cake and a hot brew. Our great club would not be the same without you!
