Enjoying the hospitality of the Boardroom at the recent Cambridge United game were WST members and Community Shareholders Chris "Scarfy" Williams from Wrexham and Mark Lamb from Buckley. As the latest winners of the Director of the Day, the pair were hosted by WST Board Member Dave Jones and enjoyed the experience of watching the game from the Directors Box.
The initiative is proving a great success amongst the members and the feedback from the lucky winners has been excellent.
Scarfy commented on the day "Having followed the Reds for 42 years from Kopite to the Mold Road Stand, it was a great experience to see what goes on behind the scenes in the Boardroom. The welcome I had from Don Bircham and the other board members was superb. My highlight had to be meeting one of my idols, Dixie McNeil. Some of the stories he told were a real laugh. All in all a fantastic day. Thanks"
Mark agreed with this but also added "Thanks to the WST for a fantastic day. I really enjoyed the experience from start to finish. It was nice to have a chat with Dixie after the game. As for the match itself we were unlucky not to get the 3 points. It was great to get a different view of the game as the Directors Box is exactly opposite my normal seat in the Mold Road Stand.
The latest winners of the Director for a Day were WST members Iestyn Davies from Marchwiel and Mike Thomas from Wrexham who were invited to join WST hosts Geoff Scott and Dave Jones in the Boardroom for the visit of Luton Town. Iestyn and Mike, both MRS season ticket holders enjoyed the experience of watching the game from the Directors Box and the result.
Iestyn said “It was a very pleasant surprise to get a call inviting me to be a 'Director for a Day.' I have supported the Reds since the late 1960s and despite only missing a few games at the Cae Ras over the past 25 years I had little insight of what went on behind the scenes on a match day. It was the first time that I had been in the Directors' Box - and the first time I had worn a jacket and tie to a game!
Mike said “it was a great experience, not only because Wrexham played well and won but it was also very enjoyable to have pre and post match chats with Trust's Directors, Club Board Directors, Sponsors as well as previous heroes, Dixie McNeil and Mickey Thomas. Everyone we met were most friendly and welcoming. All future winners are sure to have a super time”
Iestyn and Mike both commented on how much passion there was for the club and how hard people worked behind the scenes to see it survive and flourish and that the solid foundations that have been laid by WST represented the way forward for the club.
