My name is Brian Phillips. I am currently the co-opted Treasurer on the WST Board. I have been carrying this out, on this basis, since January 2016 thoroughly enjoying every aspect of the role which is why I am now seeking election to the Board. My role involves maintaining accurate records of member contributions, timely banking of fundraising and other income, having adequate controls for expenditure and completing the Trust’s annual accounts working closely with our external auditor. I also arrange the Trust’s Public Liability insurance ensuing it is appropriately insured against any risks it may face.
During the time that I have been Treasurer, I was also asked to Chair the Build the Budget committee during its first year, helping to raise, with the fantastic support of supporters of the Club, over £130K. I have been supporting the Club since I was a young lad, way back in 1973 having seen the good as well as the bad times.
Another role I also undertake, is managing the WST Community share offer. Briefly, this involves ensuring that the record database of members who contribute to scheme are accurately maintained, share certificates are issued as required and correctly information is reflected in the Trust’s annual accounts.
My background is Public Sector Finance, working in Local Government for 37 years. I have been a fully qualified accountant since 1992 working in a variety of roles. Currently, I provide financial advice for the complex and challenging area of Children’s Social Care within a local authority, advising and reporting on a budget of over £32m.
As I previously mentioned, I enjoy playing my part for the Trust and take my Treasurer role and responsibilities very seriously. I also felt very privileged to be asked to be part of the Build the Budget committee working closely with other dedicated people committed to the principles of the supporter’s trust movement.
