My name is Robert Stock and I am 33 years old. I live in Ruabon and work as a primary school teacher at Borras Park Primary in Wrexham. I’m a season ticket holder in the Hays Travel Stand and have supported the Reds for over 25 years.
Over the past 4 years I have volunteered as a co-ordinator for the Junior Dragons. Working alongside Ceris and Ffion Walker, I am extremely proud of the hard work we have put in as a team to build the Junior Dragons into the success story that it is today. As well as assisting with the organisation and running of events, I run our social media accounts and compile the Junior Dragons page in this season’s match programme. We now have over 500 young fans as members and run many highly popular events throughout the year. The first Junior Dragons event I was involved in had just 8 children attending whereas most of our events now sell out, such as our 2018 Christmas Party which saw 150 children attend!
I have served on the Trust Board as a co-opted member since August 2018 and this has been a role that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Since being co-opted, I have worked as part of the community group and have gained a valuable insight into how the club is run.
I am extremely passionate about ensuring that the club does everything possible to attract the next generation of supporters. One way I feel the club can do this better is by forging stronger relationships with local youth football clubs. The Macron Wrexham and District Youth Football League alone has over 2500 children playing within it! This led me to arrange a Grassroots Youth Football Day for our home game against Dagenham in February. The event saw us offer free match tickets to children registered with local youth teams in Wrexham and Flintshire and proved a great success with over 1,200 children and accompanying adults taking advantage of the offer. I also established positive links with officials from both the Wrexham and Flintshire youth football leagues, having hosted four of their officers in the boardroom for this game.
If elected to the board, I would hope to continue to serve on the Community Group and help to build on the fantastic work already being done in this area. I would continue to work tirelessly for the Junior Dragons and ensure we continue to further grow our membership and the number of events we run. I will also strive to further develop links with local youth football clubs and build on the success of the Grassroots Youth Football Day.
